Chris Denton, Co-owner, Shoe Chick:
Born in the 20th century in the thriving metropolis of Hiawatha, Kansas, Chris will not tell her age but she can guarantee she is old enough to vote, but not old enough to retire. Chris has always been interested in health and fitness, practicing as a registered dietitian in cardiac rehabilitation for 10 years in North Carolina before moving to Davis in 1993. When she isn’t working at the store she is usually digging in her garden or volunteering at the UC Davis Arboretum. Other times she loves cross-training and can be seen around town doing spin classes, Yoga, or run/walks. She is the head buyer for women's apparel and manages the store’s human resource department. Yep, she's the one to talk to about a job.
J.D. Denton, Co-owner, Shoe Guy:
J.D. came of age on the plains of West Texas in the 50s and 60s, but escaped the Llano Estacado in the late 60s and didn't look back. He earned a B.A. in Communications from Wichita State University in Kansas in 1973, then lived in North Carolina for a number of years before moving to California in 1993 with wife Chris (see above). A professional retailer since 1975, J.D. has managed jeans stores, general sporting goods stores, and since taking over Fleet Feet Davis in 1993, one of the world’s great specialty running stores (hyperbole his). During those rare times when he’s not working at Fleet Feet, J.D. burns out heart rate monitor batteries on his elliptical trainer, rides his ElliptiGO around Davis greenbelts, or sprawls out on his couch to root for the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos (if they're playing each other, he roots for the home team...most of the time). He’s also active in the Davis Chamber of Commerce, the Davis Rotary Club, and the Davis Downtown Business Association. In 2008, J.D. was elected to the Specialty Running Hall of Fame by the members of the Independent Running Retailers Association. JD retired in 2010 as a senior writer for Running Times after 15 years as a columnist. Click here for a link to past Shoe Guy columns.
