CALLING ALL WOMEN WHO ARE READY TO RUN

Running for Women is a run/walk program for women only, offered at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.  New classes start in January, September, and April.  The emphasis is on a gentle approach with injury prevention a major focus. The beginning program is tailored for women who have never run but are interested in taking their walking program to the next level.  All sessions continue with the run/walk program at increased distances and intervals. All sessions are 10 weeks in duration. The cost of the programs ranges from $109 - $129, with advanced registration required.

 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Not all classes are offered at all times. Check out the current class schedule below for what is being offered.

BEGINNING

Designed to take women from “couch to 5K”. Class starts with “1 minute run 5 minute walk” intervals and gently increases running time while decreasing walking time. Initial workouts will take about 35-40 minutes building up to 45-50 minutes. Runs build from 35 to 50 minutes in duration. Each session ends with gentle stretching. Prerequisite is ability to walk briskly for 30 minutes non-stop. The cost of this program is $109.

5K MAINTENANCE

This class is for the runner who has completed the Beginner course but isn’t quite yet ready to make the jump to Intermediate and a 10K.  The emphasis is on maintaining and building fitness from the Beginner class, and gently increasing distance with run/walk training.  Runs will be 45-60 minutes in duration. Each session ends with gentle stretching. Prerequisite is completion of Beginner or ability to run/walk for 45 minutes, or 20 total running minutes in a run/walk workout. The cost of this program is $109.

INTERMEDIATE

This class builds from the Beginning and 5K Maintenance classes, and builds to 5-6 miles in a workout at the completion of the course. Prerequisite is ability to run 30 minutes non stop or 30 total running minutes in a run/walk workout. Runs will take about 50-65 minutes total time and intervals will include more running and less walking than the Beginning and 5K Maintenance programs. Each session ends with gentle stretching. The cost of this program is $109.

STEP IT UP

Designed as a class to improve endurance and speed by playing weekly running games in addition to running intervals similar to the intermediate class. Prerequisite is ability to run 45 minutes continuously or 45 total running minutes in a run/walk workout. Each session ends with gentle stretching. The cost of this program is $109.

MAINTENANCE

For women who have completed the intermediate class, or who can run 30 total minutes in a run/walk workout, this class is designed to help you maintain your fitness. The intervals in this class don't progress as they do in a traditional beginning or intermediate class, so participants can miss a week or two, and jump right back in without feeling behind. Prerequisite is ability to run 45 minutes continuously or 45 total running minutes in a run/walk workout. Each session ends with gentle stretching. The cost of this program is $109.

MAINTENANCE/STEP IT UP

This is a new class that combines endurance and speed drills from the Step It Up class with the benefits of fitness running from the Maintenance class. Some days intervals will be offered that often incorporate speed, while other days the emphasis will be on maintaining fitness. Prerequisite is ability to run 45 minutes continuously or 45 total running minutes in a run/walk workout. Each session ends with gentle stretching. The cost of this program is $109.

HALF-MARATHON

Designed to help you cross the finish line of a half-marathon. The 10 week program follows a run/walk plan, with participants staying together as a group. Prerequisite is the ability to run 60 minutes in a run/walk workout. Each session ends with gentle stretching. The cost of this program is $129.

SATURDAY LONG RUN

This new offering is for women enrolled in the Step It Up Morning and Evening Sessions. It is designed to offer one long run each week in addition to the Step It Up program. Runs can last 2 hours or longer. Women in this class will be given the option to enter a 1/2 marathon race. The cost of this program is $60. This class is not offered at each session, please check with a coach for availability.

FIT HOUSE

FIT House, a specialty fitness studio in Davis, is partnering with Fleet Feet and Running For Women and offering a 10-week Circuit Training program. This additional class for our RFW participants adds another fitness option along with running.  There are three classes offered: Tuesday 9:00 am, or Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6:45 pm at FIT House. Cost is $120 for 10 sessions. Want to try it first before deciding? Come to a free trial night on Monday, January 7 from 7-8 pm at FIT House; 630 Pena Drive, Suite 500.
